Frequently Asked Questions

A few of the most frequent questions we are asked include …

How long does it take to setup and take down the display every year?

It takes approximately 15 full (8 hour) weekend days to set the display up, but only 5 – 6 full days to take it down!

How many lights do you have?

We stopped counting at 50,000 lights, years ago, and have expanded on that number every year since!

How much electricity does this display consume?

We used to run a total of four 15 amp, two 20 amp and one 30 amp circuits to power the entire display. We now run almost exclusively LED lighting in place of the conventional mini-lights and our electrical demands are a mere fraction of what they used to be, in spite of the fact that we have added additional lighting effects to the display every year!

How do you create some of these display items?

The vast majority of our display items are home made, including much of the actual electronics. We use Lexan (polycarbonate) to design many of the display items. Here are two examples:

The items we purchased include the mechanically animated figures, the blow mold figures, and some of the wire frame displays.

What is our special family night all about?

Bundle up the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews and bring them out to our display for our special family event, held once each year. The event is held on the first or second Saturday of December between 6:30 and 8:00pm. Check the latest happenings section for the date for this year’s event.

For this event vehicles should park on the sides of the road, as this is a walk-in only event. (We can make special arrangements for individuals having difficulties with walking)

The children will be greeted by Elf-on-the-Shelf, Frosty, and Rudolph who will pose for pictures with the families that will be emailed to folks after the event.

They will accept letters to Santa (which if provided with a return address will be answered), and hand out treats. Hot chocolate will be offered to all attending.

There is no charge for any of this, our annual gift to the community.

We collect for the Boys and Girls club of Holland and the South towns all season long, so any monetary (cash or check) donations, while optional, are certainly appreciated.

I will be the photographer for this event, and look forward to visiting with you, answering any display questions you might have (time permitting).

When can we visit?

The display runs every night from 6pm to 10pm, from the day after Thanksgiving, through December 25th.

** The display will not operate during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, as the GFCI outlets will trip, which is a safety feature. They are not bothered by snowfall, even if heavy, so the only time the display will be off is during evenings where there has been moderate/heavy rain occurring.

The Christmas music the display is synchronized to may be heard by tuning your car FM radio to 104.3 Mhz. Additional display information is also broadcast.
